Apple Cinnamon Dog Treats

Apple Cinnamon Dog Treats

Regular price $9.99

Even though I was already feeding my two little dogs super premium grain-free dog food, many of the commercially prepared food ingredients made me rethink their diet. In my quest to switch my dogs to a better diet, I started studying canine nutrition and making homemade "mutt loaf" for my geriatric Italian Greyhound, Charlie, and my newly adopted mini Sheltie mix, Piper.

After many months of experimenting with ingredients for optimal nutrition, I fine-tuned my own proprietary recipes for six flavors of treats. Many dogs were willing and eager to taste test!  The six flavors I am offering for sale are lab tested for their guaranteed analysis and are licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.  More flavors are in development, and I’m having fun adapting from baking for humans to baking for pets.

My treats are made thin so my tiny dogs can enjoy them. Finding treats that my aging Italian Greyhound, who is missing many teeth, could eat was a challenge. After much experimenting with size and thickness, my little guy can enjoy both the one-inch size and the 1.5 inch bones. Anything smaller than 1 inch, he swallowed whole.  He was a most willing test subject!

Ingredients

All natural ingredients including:

  • Turmeric - Has been in use since antiquity for its anti-inflammatory (painkiller), anti-flatulent and anti-microbial properties. The curcumin found in turmeric is being studied for its anti-tumor, antioxidant, anti-arthritic, anti-amyloid, anti-ischemic and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Cinnamon - Cinnamon spice is known to have antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-septic, local anesthetic, anti-inflammatory, rubefacient (warming and soothing to skin), and anti-flatulent properties.  It has the highest antioxidant strength of all the foods. Cinnamon also helps in digestion by increasing gastro-intestinal enzyme secretions.
  • Untoasted buckwheat flour- Despite its name, buckwheat is not a grass and is not related to wheat. It is a flowering plant and is related to sorrel and rhubarb.  The protein in buckwheat comprises almost all of the required amino acids in excellent amounts, especially lysine. Buckwheat seeds are a very rich source of soluble and insoluble dietary fiber as well as the minerals copper and magnesium. It is a rich store of B-complex group vitamins, especially riboflavin (vitamin B2) and niacin (vitamin B3). Buckwheat also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties from the polyphenolic compounds rutin, tannins, and catechin.
  • Golden flax seed- Flax seed is one of the top plant sources of omega-3 essential fatty acids such as linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and arachidonic acids. It is also rich in monounsaturated fatty acids like oleic acid. The seeds contain lignans, a class of phytoestrogens considered to have antioxidant and cancer preventing properties. Flax is also an excellent source of vitamin E, especially rich in gamma-tocopherol, and the minerals manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and selenium.
  • Egg- Eggs are packed with healthy nutrients. The vitamins and minerals in eggs help promote healthy skin and hair. The selenium in eggs protects cells from oxidative damage, nourishes the immune system, and aids in thyroid gland function. Eggs are a rich source of iodine which also aids in thyroid gland function, maintaining healthy skin, and keeping the nervous system healthy.
  • Apple - Apples contain good quantities of vitamin-C and beta-carotene and they are a good source of the B-complex vitamins riboflavin, thiamin, and pyridoxine (vitamin B-6). They also contain a small amount of the minerals potassium, phosphorus, and calcium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids and helps in controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Apples are rich in dietary fiber and in antioxidant phyto-nutrients flavonoids and     Some of the important flavonoids in apples are quercetin, epicatechin, and procyanidin B2.  Altogether, these compounds help the body protect from deleterious effects of free radicals.
